India’s data centre sector reached an important milestone in 2026, advancing from APAC’s ‘High Growth Market’ to the ‘Leading Markets’ category alongside Japan, Australia and Mainland China. The move reflects the sector’s growing scale and maturity, backed by continued capacity additions, sustained investment activity and a strong development pipeline.

By end-H1 2026, cumulative investment commitments since 2021 in India’s data centres (DC) sector stood at approximately USD 173 billion, including around USD 38 billion during H1 2026. Mumbai remained the country’s largest market, accounting for 52% of operational stock.

The report examines the investment and supply trends behind this growth, the widening geographic spread of DC activity, and evolving operator priorities across site selection, capacity expansion, and renewable energy. It also features preliminary findings from CBRE’s 2026 India Data Centre Operator Survey and outlines the key themes expected to influence the sector through 2026-27.
